What can online students do for Appreciation Day?

Written by Dalida Froemel and Maitreyi Singh

On the 11th of February, GIS celebrates its first ever Appreciation Day. The aim of this event is to let students, teachers, and parents show appreciation to one another in the midst of challenging times. For the people who attend school physically, the Social Committee and Service Committee have created some Covid-friendly initiatives that everyone can participate in. But what can the remote learners do to feel included? From two StuELT members, Dalida and Maitreyi, here are some recommendations for online students who wish to participate in this very special day.

1. Stay connected with the people in school

The aim of appreciation day is to share our love and affection with our friends, classmates and faculty. For online learners, that doesn’t mean that you are limited to talking only amongst each other. A great way to connect with someone in school can be by sending them an email or a card from 123greetings.com . This website is completely free, and it has all sorts of animations and cards which can be sent digitally to the person you care about the most.

2. Dress to impress!

Since wearing a uniform is not compulsory in remote learning, why not dress up for appreciation day? We recommend wearing warm, vibrant colors like red. Feel free to add extra accessories or even makeup to your outfit. When you connect for your online classes, people will appreciate your involvement and creativity. And who knows, maybe this can also be an opportunity to give yourself a bit of a makeover or time for self care. Appreciation day is about showing that you care about everyone, including yourself.

3. Dedicate a presentation to your person of appreciation

A great digital gift to a special someone would be creating a customized presentation just for them! Record a video of you presenting a “appreciation project” and include what you like about this person and why you decided to make a video about them. Some other things to mention are your favorite memories together, inside jokes, and pictures.

4. Create a word search with the virtues of the person you want to appreciate!

Games and puzzles are great ways to test your mental ability and boost your creativity, so why not use them to use them to create crosswords or word searches consisting of positive adjectives, accurately describing the person you really appreciate? A great website to help you create a word search with the wonderful words you’ve created is word search maker where you can insert 10-30 words! How cool is that?

5. Compose and record your own musical compositions!

Do you want to show your musical talent? Or how much you really care about the person you appreciate through your powerful voices with meaningful lyrics? If yes this activity is perfect for you! To create a melodious song you can either record yourself singing your musical composition and share it with the person you appreciate.

Don’t forget, Appreciation Day is on 11th of February, created by the service and social committee. Their aim is to let all students (be it online or on campus), as well as parents, and teachers to feel honored and value the importance of others around them. Top 5 ways in which students online can participate and indulge in this wonderful event are: staying connected with the people in school, dress to impress, dedicate a presentation to your person of appreciation, create a word search with the virtues of the person you want to appreciate, and last--but not least--Compose and record your own musical compositions!
