"WandaVision" will be the first MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) content to be released since "Spiderman: Far from Home", which hit theatres all the way back in 2019. "WandaVision" will be a 10 episode, live-action TV Show which is centred around Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and The Vision (Paul Bettany), with the first episode set to premiere on January 15th 2021 exclusively on DisneyPlus.
Plot:
The show will take place after the events of "Avengers: Endgame". The movie's plot is "Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems" (Marvel.com).
The theme of the movie is classic American television, as can be seen in the trailers. The show will take place over six different "time periods", with each time period being a reference to a classic American Sitcom. Overall, this T.V. show's mood will likely be very different from what we are used to in the MCU.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that the events of "WandaVision" will lead directly to the events of "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness", which is set to hit theatres next year. It has already been confirmed that Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) will be the main character in that movie!
Characters:
Wanda Maximoff –
Wanda is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, possessing the power of chaos magic! We first saw Wanda in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", where her and her brother, Pietro Maximoff, were introduced as lab rats who were being experimented on using the mind stone (one of the 6 infinity stones). Wanda gained the powers of telekinesis and telepathy, while Pietro gained the control of super speed. At the end of the movie, Pietro was killed by Ultron.
Throughout "Captain America: Civil War" and "Avengers: Infinity War", we saw Wanda develop a romantic relationship with Vision. We also saw Wanda's chaos magic powers grow stronger with each movie, as Wanda's abilities right now are just a fraction of the real power she possesses. However, at the end of "Avengers: Infinity War", Wanda was forced to kill Vision to destroy the Mind Stone. However, Thanos resurrected Vision using the Time Stone and proceeded to kill him again. The death of both her brother and her lover (Twice!) drives Wanda Maximoff off the edge, making her mentally unstable (Wanda's mental instability is one of her defining traits in the comics, as she often goes off the edge and warps reality to her will).
The current theories are that the now psychologically unstable Wanda Maximoff will use her reality-bending powers to literally warp reality, creating a new reality where Vision is alive. Both of them are living a happy, quiet suburban life together. Throughout the WandaVision show, we will likely see Wanda use her powers like never before. Wanda has appeared in 4 MCU movies so far but has never been referred to as the "Scarlet Witch" (Her official superhero name in the comics). However, in the WandaVision trailer, we saw Wanda finally wearing her "Scarlet Witch" superhero costume, indicating that she might eventually take on the persona.
Vision –
Vision is an Android who first appeared in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", where he was created by Ultron to destroy the Avengers. Ultimately, Vision betrayed Ultron and aided the Avengers to defeat him. Vision is not made of organic material; hence he can lift Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) in "Avengers: Age of Ultron". However, due to him having the mind stone implanted in his head, Vision can understand and develop human emotions, causing him to fall in love with Wanda Maximoff. The last time we saw Vision was in "Avengers: Infinity War" when he was killed by Thanos.
Vision possesses a wide variety of powers, such as superhuman strength, durability, and reflexes, density manipulation, flight, shapeshifting, and powerful energy blasts from the mind stone. These powers make Vision one of the most powerful characters in the MCU.
Monica Rambeau –
We first and last saw Monica Rambeau in "Captain Marvel". She was the 11-year-old daughter of Maria Rambeau, the air force pilot who helped Captain Marvel when she crashed on Earth. However, "Captain Marvel" was set in 1995, while "WandaVision" is set around the year 2025, meaning that Monica Rambeau is now a fully grown woman, and will be played by American actress Teyonah Parris.
Monica Rambeau is actually a superhero herself, operating with the codename "Spectrum". Her powers are energy absorption, generation, and manipulation (essentially Captain Marvel but without the super-strength). In fact, she has also taken up the mantle of Captain Marvel multiple times in the comics!
WandaVision will likely show us what Monica has been up to in the last 30 years. However, Monica will also be a main character in "Captain Marvel 2", which is releasing on July 8th, 2022. Therefore, this show will likely be used to introduce Monica before "Captain Marvel 2" hits theatres.
Jimmy Woo –
Jimmy Woo (played by Randall Park) was last seen in "Ant-Man and the Wasp", in which he was the F.B.I. agent tasked with keeping an eye on Scott Lang (Ant-Man), who was under house arrest after the events of "Captain America: Civil War". Woo was also tasked with hunting down and arresting Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne during the events of "Ant-Man and the Wasp."
During the events of WandaVision, Jimmy Woo will be an agent of S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department), a fictional intelligence agency which will be introduced in this show. S.W.O.R.D. is the space-based counterpart of S.H.I.E.L.D. Its primary purpose is to protect the Earth from extraterrestrial threats comics that Captain Marvel is often associated with S.W.O.R.D., so, likely, Monia Rambeau might also be an agent of S.W.O.R.D.
Darcy Lewis –
Played by Kat Dennings, Darcy Lewis was the main character in "Thor" and "Thor: The Dark World". She is a scientist who researched Norse mythology and was one of the characters who helped Thor get his powers back.
WandaVision will explain what Darcy has been up to these past few years. It is very probable that Darcy joined S.W.O.R.D., working as a scientist and researching extraterrestrial life. However, Darcy's role in the show remains highly unknown.
Agnes –
A brand-new character which will be introduced in this show, Agnes (Played by Kathryn Hahn) is a resident of the suburbs where Wanda and Vision are living and is described as "the nosy neighbour". Although not much is known about Agatha, many fans have speculated that Agatha is just an alias and that the character is really Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch. The latter is Wanda's mentor-turned-enemy in the comics. Agatha's first syllable is "Ag", and the last syllable in Harkness is "ness". When combined, they make the name "Agnes". Coincidence? Probably not!
