Gender Equality

Gender equality plays an important role in today’s society. It is our responsibility to make sure people from all over the world are aware of the element that sets society apart, gender equality. Gender equality is not only a universal human right, but a vital cornerstone for a secure, prosperous, and healthy society. Gender disparity affects women, men, trans and gender diverse persons, children as well as families. Progress has been made over the years as compared to how gender equality was perceived back in the day. For example, a wider population of girls now get to have an education and go to school, more women have a role of leadership in parliaments and fewer girls of a young age are being forced into marriage.

Despite these achievements, many problems remain: patriarchal laws and societal norms remain prevalent, within a 12-month span, 1 in 5 women and girls between the age group of 15 and 49 claim that an intimate partner experienced physical or sexual abuse. Gender equality sometimes gets mistaken for only being directed to women, however, gender equality applies to any and every gender and is equally important. Today, women share the role of provider more and more with men. A similar shift in the allocation of domestic jobs, has however not occurred. For that reason women in both positions (successful and reproductive) work longer hours than men, have less rest, and are burdened with a hectic schedule that endangers their health and restricts their chances of pursuing a professional career.

There are still a majority of people unaware of the importance of gender equality, how we need to react to it, and when we need to react to it. In order for our society to help we must spread awareness regarding the current issues , to promote gender equality. In order to do so we must then focus on these problems and formulate strategies to reconcile work and family life, so that both men and women can have access to a successful life. To take a stand and start building a life towards gender equality you can do the following:

  • Watch for domestic abuse

  • Assist mothers and parents

  • Oppose sexsit attitudes

  • Help women gain more power.

  • Represent and LISTEN. ...

  • Recruit DIVERSITY

  • Same compensation for Equivalent Jobs (pay and demand)
